Job Summary:
The Real Estate Development Legal Counsel is responsible for providing comprehensive legal support and guidance to the Real Estate Development team. This role requires a deep understanding of real estate development laws and regulations, contract negotiation skills, and the ability to navigate complex legal issues. The Legal Counsel will work closely with internal stakeholders, external legal counsel, and business partners to ensure compliance with legal requirements and to support the successful execution of real estate development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal advice and support on all aspects of real estate development projects, including land acquisition, entitlements, zoning, permitting, construction, financing, leasing, and property management.
2. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal agreements and contracts related to real estate development, including purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, construction contracts, lease agreements, and financing documents.
3. Conduct due diligence and research to identify legal risks and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Development, Construction, Finance, and Operations, to provide legal guidance and support throughout all stages of real estate development projects.
5. Manage external legal counsel engaged in real estate transactions, ensuring timely and cost-effective legal services.
6. Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends impacting real estate development, and proactively advise the organization on potential implications.
7. Resolve legal disputes and claims related to real estate development projects, including engaging in negotiations, mediation, and litigation, if necessary.
8. Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external legal counsel, governmental authorities, and other relevant parties involved in real estate development projects.
Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
3. Minimum of [X] years of experience practicing real estate law, with a focus on real estate development.
4. Strong understanding of real estate development laws, regulations, and industry practices.
5. Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal agreements and contracts related to real estate development.
